Newest Drafthouse Films Acquisition, GRACELAND, Getting Release in Native Country

Last week Drafthouse Films announced the acquisition of breathtaking crime epic GRACELAND, now comes news that the film is getting a theatrical release in its home country. Watch out for the stateside release hitting theaters and VOD in 2013.

From the press release:

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – September 8, 2012 – Imprint Pictures is proud to announce that their Manila-lensed thriller, GRACELAND, will receive a theatrical release in its native country of The Philippines.

A riveting and unpredictable Filipino crime saga, GRACELAND thrusts viewers into the corrupt underbelly of the Philippines’ capital, exposing a world of deceit, exploitation, and startling depravity. Written and directed by Ron Morales (Santa Mesa), this “lean and breathless thriller” (Complex Magazine) depicts a desperate man’s infinite moral compromises amidst a tale of kidnapping gone horribly wrong.

The film’s North American theatrical, VOD, and DVD rights were recently acquired by acclaimed Texas-based distribution company Drafthouse Films, with their sights set on a 2013 release. Drafthouse Films rose to notoriety last year with the North American release of the Oscar-Nominated Bullhead.

GRACELAND made its world premiere at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, where it received an audience award and stalwart praise from critics. Gabe Toro of Indiewire called it “mesmerizing,” while Twitch says GRACELAND is “twisted enough to keep even the most seasoned thriller aficionado second guessing up to the end.” It went on to play to sold-out crowds at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival, and will screen later this month at Austin’s FantasticFest and The Athens International Film Festival in Greece.

GRACELAND will proudly celebrate its Asian Premiere at 6:00PM on September 12, when it will begin a one-week theatrical run at Quezon City’s Robinsons Movieworld. The film will screen nightly at 6:00 and 8:00 from September 12th through the 18th, with director Ron Morales and producer Rebecca Lundgren at select screenings.

GRACELAND stars Arnold Reyes, Menggie Cobarrubias, Dido de la Paz, Leon Miguel, Ella Guevara, Marife Necesito and Patricia Ona Gayod. Supporting cast includes Angie Ferro, Angelie Bayani, Archie Adamos, Lynn Sherman, Rommel Luna, Roberto Sanchez, Marie Dionne De Guzman, Jordan Castillo, and Pierro Rodriguez.
