We caught wind of this story through the internet... Nightclub Tycoon to open Pangaea in former Alamo Drafthouse location.
Here's a link to the Existing Pangaea nightclub website.
Pangaea...not my personal cup of tea, but I hope it works out well for the warehouse district. Anyhow, with this news, we have nailed down a final night for the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown.... The "last night at the Alamo" is slated for June 27. I'm having a hard time even writing down that date and making it F-I-N-A-L. 409 Colorado has meant everything to me for the past decade and we'll be very sad to let it go. I cried when I went to go and see OH GOD, so I'm sure there will be tears shed over raised glasses on June 27th.
We'll have three shows, something special for 3 different crowds that we serve at the Alamo. We will announce the final month's lineup in early May and tickets for the final night at the Alamo will go on sale at noon on May 27, one month out from the night itself.
For the last show, a very special Weird Wednesday event, your ticket will include a ratcheting wrench. Please take your chair with you as you leave.
Check back to this blog, we'll be posting regular updates on the new Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz construction project. I guarantee you, once you see this incredible new space, your sadness for losing the old location will fade away.
We are just over a month away from closing the doors of our original Colorado Street location forever, and even though we're super excited to open the doors at the Ritz later this summer, saying goodbye to a room that has been a second home for many of us is still going to be a memorable and bittersweet occasion. To celebrate the history of the theater, we've put together a triple feature like nothing we've ever done before, featuring a six-course feast with matching wine pairings to the movie BIG NIGHT at 7pm, an amazing Sensuround screening of EARTHQUAKE at 9:45pm, and then we're going out with a special WEIRD WEDNESDAY screening of NIGHT WARNING with Susan Tyrell live, then at the end of the night select ticket holders will be given a wrench and they'll take their seat home with them. Tickets for all shows will go on sale this Sunday, May 27, a month away from the final night itself, and once they're gone, they are gone forever.
We'll be opening up blocks of tickets at the box office Downtown at noon on Sunday, then opening up online ticket sales at 1pm. Tickets for the full on triple feature will be $225 and will include the whole feast with matching wine during Big Night, a hand silk-screened commemorative poster and the seat you're sitting in. Double feature tickets for EARTHQUAKE and NIGHT WARNING will be $85. For Heroes of the Alamo members and Fantastic Fest badge holders, tickets are $200 & $70 respectively. Individual tickets may be available at the door on the night of the show.
All of these proceeds will then go straight into the Ritz construction fund so we can try to push that along and open the doors there with a gala opening night celebration just as soon as possible.
