It’s Halloween All Month Long at Alamo Drafthouse Richardson!

Alamo Drafthouse Richardson Programmer James Wallace unwraps some of the treats we have planned for you throughout the month of October!

It’s Halloween All Month Long at Alamo Drafthouse Richardson!

Halloween has always been my favorite time of year, not only as a holiday but as a time to revisit some of my favorite films of the season (not that I ever need a reason). When you think of Halloween, you of course think Horror and rightfully so. But there are other classics that don’t automatically pop into your Jack-O’-Lantern as being classic Halloween films.

That’s why when it came time to program October, we really wanted to explore the breadth of Halloween-centric movies...not just the all time great Horror films (granted, we of course included some of those) but the all time great films in general that take place on or around All Hallow’s Eve.* E.T., THE CROW, DONNIE DARKO just to name a few - coincidentally three films that have given us some of the best Halloween costumes ideas year after year.

Of course, our Halloween Horror programming all starts with John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN which we will be showing ON Halloween. After all, It wouldn’t be Halloween-themed programming without it! But because we need some tricks to go along with our treats, we’re also having our friends at Master Pancake make a trip down to bring you their unique brand of movie mockery of Michael Myers the Sunday before Halloween. If you’ve ever seen a Master Pancake show, just imagine the hilarity that the long, silent shots of Michael starring creepily could provide! Plus they'll have a frind with them...special guest Mary Jo Pehl from Cinematic Titanic and Mystery Science Theater 3000!

Other Halloween-centric Horror titles throughout the month include Rob Zombie’s HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, PUMPKINHEAD in 35MM, THE MONSTER SQUAD in 35MM, CREEPSHOW in 35MM, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS in 35MM, Girlie Night: HOCUS POCUS and TRICK’R’TREAT (my own personal favorite Halloween movie).

Being that Halloween is as much a family holiday, we included some spooky, fun family-friendly All Hallow’s Eve films including some FREE Kid’s Camp titles like MONSTER HOUSE and THE ADDAMS FAMILY. We also have a big treat...the Cartoon Cereal Party: Halloween Special Extravaganza - an all-you-can-eat-cereal grub fest featuring some of the all time great animated Halloween specials (we’ll be honest...this is as much for kids as it is kids at heart).

It’s Halloween all month long at Alamo Drafthouse Richardson. A few tricks, lots of treats. It’s going to be so much fun it’s scary!

But that’s not all, folks! There are some films that don't necessarily fit the theme of taking place on or around Halloween but we couldn't help but include...

On Sundays throughout October, we’ll feature a different Universal Monster classic in the Universal Monster Matinee Sunday Series with CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON 3D, THE WOLF MAN, a FRANKENSTEIN/BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN Double Creature Feature and DRACULA. If you attend every single one, you’ll have the chance to win the Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection on Blu-ray!

Also showing in October: GHOSTBUSTERS Quote-Along, Girlie Night: THE CRAFT, Video Hate Squad: ROCKTOBER BLOOD, Michael Jackson Sing-Along, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW Sing-Along.

*Granted, as always there were a few films we wanted to program but unfortunately they weren’t available from the studio at this time for various reasons. We won’t say what those are (*cough cough* NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS) but we hope to be able to show them in the near future to make up for it.
