Houston! See Quentin Tarantino’s favorite film of the year, BIG BAD WOLVES

The Israeli horror/comedy comes to town as part of the 2013 Fantastic Fest On Tour

Houston! See Quentin Tarantino’s favorite film of the year, BIG BAD WOLVES

“Not only is this the best film in Busan, this is the best film of the year.” – Quentin Tarantino

It’s no surprise that BIG BAD WOLVES won the approval of Tarantino. The movie, an Israeli film that blends elements of crime films, horror and comedy, is an absolute blast that calls to mind some of the best of Tarantino’s work. From the way the script effortlessly tugs the audience along as it experiences tonal shift after tonal shift to the outstanding acting from the film’s leads, Tzahi Grand, Lior Ashkenazi and Rotem Keinan, BIG BAD WOLVES is a powerhouse of storytelling – taking a very dark, very taboo subject matter and crafting a pulpy, edge of the seat thriller from it.

BIG BAD WOLVES begins with the police on the trail of a child killer. Miki (Ashkenazi) is a police detective who decides to take the law into his own hands and torture the truth out of Dror, the main suspect (played by Keinan). Menawhile, Gidi (Grad) is the father of the latest victim and he’s looking for a little revenge himself. When the three of these men find themselves in the same room on a long night in the middle of nowhere, tensions raise well beyond the boiling point and lives are forever ruined. Did I mention the movie is really funny? Because it is.

Directors/writers Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado previously worked together on the 2010 Israeli horror film RABIES, another film that completely shattered the boundaries between genres, when it set out to tell a slasher film and then proceeded to remove the slasher from the equation in the first act. BIG BAD WOLVES shows that the two filmmakers are continuing to gain momentum as their career progresses – crafting films that demand the audience’s attention regardless of how punishing the horror might be. If you enjoy cutting edge foreign films, BIG BAD WOLVES is a can’t miss when it comes to Houston this November as part of Fantastic Fest On Tour.
