Starting Monday at the Ritz we will have a 5 film miniseries of some of our favorite, though usually less-screened Hitchcock titles. While the color spectaculars like VERTIGO, REAR WINDOW and NORTH BY NORTHWEST deservedly get lots of play, we want to focus on some of the master's work that is less often screened.
It would be wrong to call NOTORIOUS (July 2 & 4) obscure, but screenings of it are not frequent enough. It's a real masterpiece, and there's some foreshadowing of the kink that began showing up more and more often in Hitch's work to follow. Cary Grant is fantastic as always, Ingrid Bergman is as beautiful as ever and really great in a tough role and Claude Rains is the coolest guy on earth, ever.
The next week's screening of I CONFESS on July 9 will take place at Lamar, due to construction at Ritz. The following weeks we will feature LIFEBOAT (July 16), THE WRONG MAN (July 23) and SPELLBOUND, featuring more kink, more Ingrid Bergman and the designs of Salvador Dali on July 30.
Special thanks to Neil Wilson for making these screenings possible.
