Ho, ho, ho. This holiday season, the Alamo Drafthouse – Mason Park is scheduling Christmas movies of all shapes and sizes – including a double feature for the horror junkies of Houston. Join us Saturday, December 8 for a screening of RARE EXPORTS – A CHRISTMAS TALE and SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT.
In just a few years since its release, RARE EXPORTS has established itself as a modern classic. Set in Finland in the days leading up to Christmas, a group of reindeer herders find their holiday in chaos after discovering the near-frozen body of what appears to be Santa Claus. This St. Nick isn’t a jolly old man, though. Instead he’s a vengeful creature of the night – kidnapping bad little children and prone to running around bare naked. A dark comedy, RARE EXPORT will evoke the same mix of wonder and horror featured in GREMLINS.
SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT is the ‘80s slasher classic – nearly banned upon its 1984 release, this horror gem details the murderous exploits of a lunatic in a Santa costume. If you like your terror frost-bitten and oh-so-holly-and-jolly, this 1984 Christmas classic is the perfect way to break into the holiday spirit.
Tickets to this Graveyard Shift double feature are only $10 and both films will be screened from original 35mm prints. Admission will come with free milk and cookies – plus a chance to have your photograph taken with a real-life caged Santa Claus. Just don’t get too close to the bars – he bites!
