Austin News

mortified-battlefield-coverIf you got the chance to check out the MORTIFIED show last month, then you'll be happy to hear that it'll be coming back very soon. Also, if you were sitting in the audience going "Damn, I've got some WAAAY more embarrassing stories than that!" then it's your chance to mortify yourself and everyone else in the audience!

Mortified is a comic excavation of awkward adolescent artifacts - old journals, poems, love letters, lyrics, locker notes, home movies, etc. - and shared by their original authors in front of total strangers.

Mortified is a nationally acclaimed show with chapters around the country and now in Austin. Hailed a "cultural phenomenon" by Newsweek and celebrated by the likes of This American Life on NPR, The Today Show, The Onion AV Club, Entertainment Weekly, Esquire, Jane, Daily Candy and more... the project collects childhood creations and uses them to reveal uniquely autobiographical tales. There are amazing stories buried in the pages of people's lives. Our mission is to simply help find them. The result is a unique show-and-tell presentation where the emphasis is always on narrative.

mortifiedIf you wrote lame-ass love letters as a kid, silly home movies, or hilariously awful short stories or melodramatic journals, then Mortified wants you for their next run of shows at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz.

If you're willing to read aloud utterly embarrassing childhood relics in front of total strangers... we'd LOVE to meet with you and hear your material. Our show is open to all.

WHEN: Sunday, January 24th, 2010 (If you can’t make this date, send us your submission anyway, and we’ll work something out!)

WHAT DO I SUBMIT?: All material must be written between the ages of 6-21 and by ALL MEANS, totally totally suck. We look for stuff that is real, written by you, laugh-out-loud funny (but not on purpose), and reveals something unique about yourself. Topics can range from the sweet (crushes) to the dark (depression)... just as long as they make people laugh. And no, you do NOT have to be an actor of any kind... just someone who is very good at playing themselves. We welcome all material: Diaries, Journals, Notebooks, Poems, Lyrics, Letters.
