Only Wes Anderson could turn Roald Dahl’s fox-outwits-farmers tale into a quirky story about the problems of growing up (no matter how old you actually are), the complicated relationship between fathers and sons, jealousy, and the importance of being yourself. Beautifully done in old-fashioned stop-motion animation, THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX is a poignant, funny film that appeals to all ages.
Mr. Fox (George Clooney) and his wife, Felicity (Meryl Streep), are typical foxes, eagerly raiding the farms that dot their landscape. When Felicity reveals she’s expecting, she begs Mr. Fox to find a safer job. He becomes a newspaper reporter, but still enjoys stealing for the thrill of the chase. But Mr. Fox has met his match in three mean farmers, who begin destroying all the animals’ homes in retaliation. It will take all Mr. Fox’s craft to fight back, and lead the forest animals to a safer, food-filled life.
Slate Magazine praised FOX as an immersive and tangible experience. “[It’s] like being magically shrunk down to scale and set loose for 90 minutes in an exquisite, handcrafted, dizzyingly well-stocked dollhouse … You don't want to watch this movie, you want to climb inside it and play.”
THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX will be the first film offered as a Free Family Fun screening at the Alamo Drafthouse Littleton on April 6 and April 7, both at 11:00am. Free Family Fun is one of our happiest and oldest Drafthouse traditions. It's not only a way for families to bond (yours and ours!) over a terrific film, but one of the youth oriented events we hope inspires a deep, abiding love of cinema in kids.
Because this is a free event, tickets will not be offered online, but must be picked up at our box office. It will be first come, first serve, so please plan accordingly!
Remember, our full food and drink menu will be available for purchase at THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX, so if watching all that barnyard thievery is making you and yours hungry, simply pop up an order card, and our team of cunning, fox like servers will be burrowing under tables to assist you. We have a full kid's menu with everything from fruit plates to grilled cheese, making the Drafthouse a one stop movie-and-meal destination for your family.
While THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX is open to all ages, we will not admit children unaccompanied by an adult. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope you and yours will still join us for our first Free Family Fun event, and become part of our family here at Alamo Drafthouse Littleton.
