Austin News

It's time to let your nerdiness start working for YOU in the form of awesome prizes. Fantastic Arcade wants you to prove your royal nerdom with a search for the geekiest yearbook photo ever.

You'd better be glad you're not competing against my friend Mandy here, because she totally cleans up at any dorky yearbook photo contest. Fortunately for YOU, this contest is open to local Austin area nerds only. Get the scoop!

WHAT:  Fantastic Arcade, the second annual showcase of independent games from the organizers of Alamo Drafthouse’s Fantastic Fest, invites local Austinites to submit their most embarrassing yearbook photos to the Fantastic Arcade Ultimate Warrior Nerd search.

Think you've got what it takes? +10 dexterity? Able to escape from a high school locker? Spine permanently warped from an overloaded backpack? And thus – completely awesome at playing videogames?  Prove that you've got the essential building block to attaining the highest level of truly awesome – the nerd gene.

WHY:  Being awkward is a way of life for us. Plus Nerds are Winners and Shall Inherit the Earth!

WHERE:  To enter the Fantastic Arcade Ultimate Warrior Nerd Search, email a JPEG of your yearbook photo, 200MB or less with full name, email address and phone number to [email protected] anytime between September 14, 2011 and September 20, 2011.

HOW:  Fantastic Arcade organizers will pick the top 5 finalists and then choose the nerd of the year to become the Fantastic Arcade mascot.  All nerds must bring their yearbook to the finals if selected – Fantastic Arcade must be sure the winning nerd truly exists!

WHEN:  Fantastic Arcade takes place September 22-25 at the Highball, 1142 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78704.  The winner will be chosen and announced on Saturday, September 24 during the Fantastic Arcade Happy Hour at 6:15 PM.

THE PRIZES:  In addition to becoming the Ultimate Warrior Nerd & Fantastic Arcade mascot, the grand prizewinner will also receive a prize package fit for Nerd royalty.
