ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE TO BE FEATURED IN
A&E’S “SHIPPING WARS”
Episode Highlights Alamo Drafthouse’s
Commitment to the Preservation of 35mm
Austin, TX –January 8, 2013 – Alamo Drafthouse is excited to announce that the theater will be featured in an upcoming episode of A&E Network’s show Shipping Wars. The episode, titled “Frankenship Horrors,” is set to air Wednesday, January 9th at 9:00 PM ET/8:00 PM CT.
The episode highlights an exciting race to deliver donated 35mm film prints to the Alamo Drafthouse, contributing to a collection of over 3,000 prints that makes up the American Genre Film Archive (AGFA). AGFA was formed in 2009 by an international band of genre enthusiasts. It is the largest archive of its kind in the world, mainly focusing on the exploitation era of independent genre cinema – the 1960s through the 1980s. With approximately 3,000 35mm prints, it reflects the rebel spirit of genre filmmaking itself.
Shipping Wars dives into the cutthroat world of heavy-duty movers as they battle for the chance to transport the “unshippable.” The competition begins with uShip, the world’s largest online marketplace for independent truckers. Everyday, thousands of shipments are put up for auction. The battle is fierce as the movers have only minutes to bid, and the lowest bidder gets the load. From oversized loads and bulky packages to the truly bizarre, these shippers will haul anything if the price is right. The high stakes race is on as they set out to deliver the loads in time, and any setback can cost big bucks.
Tune-in to A&E Wednesday, January 9th to watch the “Frankenship Horrors” episode of Shipping Wars at 9:00 PM ET/8:00 PM CT.
