Cocaine-Fueled Motorcycle Ninja Rock ‘80s Epic MIAMI CONNECTION Opens at the Alamo THIS FRIDAY!!!

"OUR NEW, CRAZY MOVIE OBSESSION!" — Entertainment Weekly

"HILARIOUS YET ODDLY TOUCHING, GOOFY YET TOTALLY SINCERE. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ENTERTAININGLY BIZARRE MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN." — Screencrush

Sometimes the impossible happens.

A few years ago, an Alamo film programmer bought a musty 35mm film print out of a guy's garage for 50 bucks. The title was MIAMI CONNECTION, a movie that had died at birth in the mid-'80s and been immediately laid to rest. Several months after the purchase, it screened for a crowd at our Weird Wednesday series. And then the world exploded.

Word spread about the sheer power of this tae kwon do-scented synth-rock drug war masterpiece. Drafthouse Films acquired it for release. Special screenings in LA and New York and Chicago detonated audiences. The film's cast -- who had hid from their lost classic for decades -- were called back into action and brought deafening applause from theatergoers. The press was dumbstruck and responded with shocking praise, including a two-page full color spread in Entertainment Weekly.

So what's all the hubbub about? Well, here's the synopsis:

The year is 1987. Motorcycle ninjas tighten their grip on Florida’s narcotics trade, viciously annihilating anyone who dares move in on their turf. Multi-national martial arts rock band Dragon Sound have
had enough, and embark on a roundhouse wreck-wave of crime-crushing justice. When not chasing beach bunnies or performing their hit song “Against the Ninja,” Mark (Tae Kwon Do master/inspirational speaker Y.K. Kim) and the boys are kicking and chopping at the drug world’s smelliest underbelly. It’ll take every ounce of their blood and courage, but Dragon Sound can’t stop until they’ve completely destroyed the dealers, the drunk bikers, the kill-crazy ninjas, the middle-aged thugs, the “stupid cocaine”...and the entire MIAMI CONNECTION!!!

...and here's the trailer, cut by HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN director Jason Eisener:

Clearly, MIAMI CONNECTION is an unstoppable force of entertainment, its unique vivacity propelling it way beyond irony and into supreme crowd-pleasing insanity. It's the best theatrical experience you can have this year/lifetime, and it opens this weekend at the Alamo. Miss it only if you're deliberately making your life as boring and joyless as possible. You can be sure that the rest of us will be at the shows, swords in hand, boomboxes at the ready, standing strong AGAINST THE NINJA!!! (Zack Carlson)
