The little Austin film that could, Mike Akel's Chalk, scored big at the box office, beating out both the mighty Spiderman and Hot Fuzz in it's opening weekend. We are in the middle of a huge blockbuster summer and the fact that a locally produced film with local actors can beat out the big boys is very gratifying. Chalk continues for one more week at the Alamo South Lamar. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out this week while you still can.
Synopsis: In the comedic tradition and “documentary” shooting style of 'Arrested Development' and 'The Office', the made-in-Austin CHALK tells the frenetic and awkwardly painful journey of three novice teachers as they navigate one memorable public school year.
