BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD begins its run at South Lamar on Friday, July 13th!

The wait is almost over! Tomorrow, Friday, July 13th, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD opens at Lamar!

Benh Zeitlin's directorial debut, BEASTS is a stunning and magical feature that had its world premiere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, where it went home with Grand Jury Prize and Best Cinematography in the U.S. Dramatic Competition. Its success on the international film festival didn't stop there, as the film then went to the Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, BEASTS took home the prestigious Camera d'Or -- awarded for best first feature film -- and the FIPRESCI prize, a commendation awarded the International Federation of Film Critics. Safe to say, this impressive first film has had no shortage of praise from critics and audiences alike. Austin, your chance to key in to buzz of this phenomenal film begins tomorrow!

BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD is an imaginative story of magical realism set in the world of the Bathtub, a fictional, rural Louisiana community. Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis), the film’s six-year-old protagonist and narrator, serves as the eyes and ears of the audience. She is the innocent, unassuming vessel through which the audience experiences the heartbreak caused by the onset of a sudden, cataclysmic storm that ravages the Bathtub and its denizens. To say more would be to spoil the surprises that BEAST OF THE SOUTHERN WILD has in store for our audiences with a true appetite for adventure.

Here's what critics nationwide are saying about BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD:

"Dense and lyrical, moving and odd, Beasts of the Southern Wild is the sort of film that makes Sundance worth attending. It's unconventional in an honest, inspiring way. This is a film that reminds us that vision and drive can be two of the most important elements of cinema." - Devin Faraci, BADASS DIGEST

"A stunning debut that finds its dandelion-haired heroine fighting rising tides and fantastic creatures in a mythic battle against modernity." - Peter Debruge, VARIETY

"It's undoubtedly something extraordinary: like a live-action Miyazaki film, with Days Of Heaven narration, set in a dirt-poor community at an unspecified time of crisis." - Noel Murray, AV CLUB

"One of the most striking films ever to debut at the Sundance Film Festival...An exceptional American independent feature." - Todd McCarthy, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

"An unknown Sundance movie that grips you from its very first images, follows through on its promise (and even raises the stakes), then sends you out dazed with other festivalgoers to wonder if you all witnessed the same minor miracle. The movie is Beasts of the Southern Wild, the director is newcomer Benh Zeitlin, and it's a work of down-home magical realism that, at its best, makes you see with new eyes." - Ty Burr, BOSTON GLOBE

"This film is a remarkable creation, imagining a self-reliant community without the safety nets of the industrialized world." - Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES

"Beasts of the Southern Wild is a game-changer that gets you excited about movies again. Star Quvenzhané Wallis is a flat-out amazement." - Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE

"Don't miss this one. A brave and inspired antidote to time-wasting mainstream movies, it is unlike anything you've seen before or will likely ever see again. In short, it is unforgettable." - Rex Reed, NEW YORK OBSERVER
