Be a beer superstar with the the 2013 Pro-Am Home Brew Beer Competition

You could brew your recipe with the brewers at No Label and have your beer on tap at multiple Houston and Katy locations.

Be a beer superstar with the the 2013 Pro-Am Home Brew Beer Competition

Those that had the chance to participate in last year's Pro-Am Home Brew Beer Competition know that this is a great time for a fun cause.

We will be accepting submissions for this year’s Pro Am Competition with No Label Brewing. This year the style we have chosen is a Fruity Wit Beer. All details about rules, regulations, and entry can be found here.

We will be looking for this to be a fun, “springtime” beer so get your thinking caps on and get creative! As with last year’s winning beer, the winner will have a chance to brew their beer with No Label Brewing Company and have their beer sold at multiple locations around town. In addition to that we will be donating a portion of the proceeds from this beer to a local charity.

Official Rules and Call for Entry | Entry Deadline: 12/1/13

  1. First things first... All entries must be submitted by someone at least 21 years old and have valid ID in order to be considered.
  2. Beers are not to be produced in a commercially licensed facility. So if you happen to live next to St. Arnold’s, you can’t “just use their equipment real quick.” It’s called, “home brew” for a reason.
  3. Each applicant must submit either four 12 ounce or two 22 ounce bottles. Entries can be turned in at the Alamo Drafthouse Mason Park, and both application and beer must be presented at time of entry. All entries must be submitted by December 1st to be eligible for the contest. In the spirit of sharing feel free to bring samples of your entry or any other home brew the day of the Final Tasting for fellow contestants and craft beer enthusiasts to taste.
  4. Scoring of the beer entries will be based on the following 6 criteria:
    • Taste.................................................30%
    • Overall Impression .........................30%
    • Appearance......................................10%
    • Mouthfeel.........................................10%
    • Aroma..............................................10%
    • Style Accuracy ................................10%
  5. Each entry should fall under the category of “Witbier” or ‘Weissbier” with a focus on each beer being “spiked” with some sort of fruit. In other words we are looking
  6. for a Fruity Wheat Beer. For reference please see www.bjcp.org/docs/2008_Guidelines.pdf. We will not be accepting any sour styles of wheat beer (berliner weiss, gose, or lambic).
  7. Due to certain constraints we will not be accepting any beers that have been bacterially soured, Brettanomyces beers, or beers that require extended aging for this competition. All beers must be single mash infusion only, no step infusions or decoction mashes. Additionally all ingredients should be readily available at retail home brewing stores or grocery stores. Last we will not be accepting any beers that require unique fermentation practices.
  8. The final tasting will include the 10 overall best rated beers being tasted by a panel of special guest judges from around the Houston Beer Scene!
  9. Contestants must be present the day of the final tasting to claim prizes.
  10. The final Tasting will take place on December 8th @ 3:00 P.M. in the Beirgarten at Alamo Drafthouse Mason Park. Bring your friends and family as we will provide normal menu service out in the Beirgarten for anyone interested in a great day of fun and beer.
  11. No Label Brewing Company, will take the recipe and reproduce, as faithful as possible to the original recipe, on a professional scale with the help of the homebrewer. If you are a Grand Champion of the Contest, you agree to disclose your complete recipe to No Label Brewing Company and grant to No Label Brewing Company an irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to all commercial and intellectual property rights to your winning beer. Entering the Contest, constitutes permission to No Label Brewing Company and its agencies to use your recipe, the name of your recipe, your name, likeness, picture, signature, voice, audio and video recordings and biographical information in any manner or media whatsoever (whether now known or hereafter devised) anywhere in the world in perpetuity for the purpose of manufacturing, promoting, advertising and trade, of any product by No Label Brewing Company without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.

Additional Prizes will be awarded to the 2nd through 5th place beers.

Please note this is NOT a BJCP sanctioned event and no score sheets will be returned

Proceeds from the sale of the winning beer will be donated to a soon to be named local charity!
