AUGUST EVENTS IN WINCHESTER

July Events: TEAMS!
In August, we welcome several movies with teams of heros, like GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, and EXPENDABLES 3.  To celebrate, we are offering other “Teams” movies including STEEL MAGNOLIAS, RESERVOIR DOGS, and THE WARRIORS, plus events like our TEAMS CARTOON CEREAL PARTY and BOY BAND SING-ALONG!  Other highlights include MONTY PYTHON’s live reunion show screening and live appearance in at the Alamo by Butch Patrick (TV’s Eddie Munster).  Read on for the details!

Kids Camp: AN AMERICAN TAIL – Our free summer series wraps up with this ‘80s animated classic.

DRAGONBALL Z: BATTLE OF THE GODS August 5 & 11  The Z-Fighters must contend with Lord Beerus, the God of Destruction. But it Can only takes a God to fight a God, and none of them are Gods - not even the Saiyans. But now there is hope, the creation of the Super Saiyan God. Will The Z-Fighters be able to defeat Lord Beerus?

Girlie Night: STEEL MAGNOLIAS August 14  The 1989 film starring Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Dolly Parton and Julia Roberts returns with girlie drink and dessert specials!

CARTOON CEREAL PARTY: TEAMS August 16  Watch cartoons from teams like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with optional all-you-can-eat cereal.  Wear your pajamas!  Two screens available, and one is an autism-friendly screening.

ELVIS: THAT’S THE WAY IT IS August 19  A 1970 documentary featuring concert and backstage footage of singer Elvis Presley.

RESERVOIR DOGS August 21  Quentin Tarantino burst onto theater screens in 1992 with this now-classic crime thriller.

DISNEY XP’S SLUGTERRA: RETURN OF THE ELEMENTALS  August 23  In Slugterra: Return of the Elementals, a new member joins the Shane Gang. Junjie is a master of the mysterious slugslinging art of Slug Fu. But even with the power of five slugslingers working together, the Shane Gang find themselves in over their heads as they race to protect the ancient Elemental Slugs from an evil alliance set on using them to destroy the 99 caverns.  Tickets on sale August 10.

VIDEO VORTEX: THE ABOMINATION August 26.  The Alamo fights to keep rare VHS-only titles from disappearing.  Discover a new movie every month for only $1 per ticket!

THE WARRIORS  August 27.  In 1979 a charismatic leader summons the street gangs of New York City in a bid to take it over. When he is killed, The Warriors are falsely blamed and now must fight their way home while every other gang is hunting them down to kill them.

PULP FICTION QUOTE-ALONG August 19.  The Tarantino classic kicks off our Shiner Soundtrack series.  Each month for the next year we will bring a movie with an amazing soundtrack in conjunction with Shiner brewery from Texas.

FILM CLUB 3.0
IDA   August 3.  Winner of 22 festival awards including Best Picture at the London Film Festival and Polish Film Awards, this film tells the story of a woman tracing her family history before taking vows to be a nun.

MOOD INDIGO  August 9.  Audrey Tautou (Amelie) stars in Michel Gondry’s new fantasty.  Inventive bachelor Colin looks to find a cure for his lover Chloe after she is diagnosed with an unusual illness caused by a flower growing in her lungs.

UNDER THE SKIN  August 13.  Scarlett Johansson stars as a mysterious woman seducing men in Scotland.  Directed by Jonathan Glazer (Birth, Sexy Beast)

THE DOG/DOG DAY AFTERNOON  DOUBLE FEATURE August 17.  We will watch the 1975 classic DOG DAY AFTERNOON starring Al Pacino, back-to-back with the new documentary THE DOG that gives a portrait of the real man and crime that inspired the movie.

ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE  August 20.  A Jim Jarmusch film starring Tilda Swinton.  A depressed musician reunites with his lover, though their romance - which has already endured several centuries - is disrupted by an uncontrollable younger sister.

SLAMDANCE ON THE ROAD  August 24.  Two of the best movies from the SLAMDANCE festival play in one day as we feature the documentaries SKANKS and KUNG FU ELLIOT with filmmaker video intros.

THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH  August 28.  Actor Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster from TV’s THE MUNSTERS) joins us in person to present this 1970 live-action/animated film in which he starred.  Tickets on sale August 5.
