Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will open a new location in Littleton, Colorado at the Aspen Grove Shopping Center in early 2013. The Alamo Drafthouse combines dinner, drinks, films and events, all under one roof. The theaters have been heralded for their signature programming events and high exhibition standards, earning accolades like “Best Theater Ever” (Time Magazine) and “the coolest theater in the world” (Wired). This will be the first Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in the state of Colorado (Alamo Littleton), making it 12 locations for the Austin-based theater chain.

Since 2005 Aspen Grove Shopping Center has also been the location for a yearly summer outdoor film series. The series, titled Family Film Festival has historically screened between 5 and 7 films on consecutive Wednesday evenings between mid June and late July. This year, the Alamo Drafthouse partners with Aspen Grove Shopping Center to co-produce the film series to introduce the local community to the Alamo Drafthouse experience.

The Alamo Drafthouse is also teaming up with local non-profit organizations and brewers to raise awareness and money for local causes and introduce Colorado craft brewers. Some of Colorado’s finest brewers have agreed to donate their wares to local non-profits who can in turn provide a cup of frothy brew for a kind donation.

Additionally, this would not be an Alamo event without themed entertainment to make the Family Film Series even more memorable. The Alamo will enhance the experience by introducing its signature Alamo style with pre-show audience activities & contests themed to each film in the series. Please see below for additional details for each film event.

At each screening gates will open at 7:00 PM and movies will begin at sundown. Food will be available for purchase at the Aspen Grove Shopping Center. Bring your own chair and enjoy a movie under the stars!

Wednesday, June 13 – THE MUPPETS Sing-Along

In an effort to determine whether our new audience is (wo)man or Muppet, the Alamo will present the “The Muppets” sing-along. This screening will not only encourage our attendees to sing out loud to both classic and newly introduced Muppet songs but will also encourage folks to bring a stuffed animal donation to Loving Hugs. Loving Hugs is a non-profit founded to provide both new and used stuffed animals to children in war zones, refugee camps, natural disaster relief centers as well as those affected by extreme poverty.

With the help of Alamo’s Muppet photo booth, families can have their pictures taken with their favorite Muppet puppets and compete for the top Muppet prize. Portraits will be projected on the screen and, with the help of the crowd; Littleton’s mayor, Debbie Brinkman, will select a winner. Avery Brewery will be our brewery partner for this event.  Parents will be able to receive a tasty beverage in return for a $2 donation to benefit Loving Hugs.

Wednesday, June 20 – PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL

The mystery of Jack Sparrow’s actual whereabouts has long been debated. However, Alamo has discovered that he traded in his briny bucket boots for powder paddles and is hidden away in Littleton, Colorado. Captain Jack has agreed to come out to host Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. This event will take place amongst the wreckage of an old schooner and feature, pirate props, face painting and a pirate bounce house.  Parents and pirates over the age of 21 can donate to the Humane Society of South Platte Valley and in return receive a beverage from Grimm Brother’s Brewhouse.

Wednesday, June 27 – WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

Come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination… and you’ll also be at the Family Film Festival with two of the all-grown up kids from the classic original film version of Willy Wonka ever! This event will bring back everything you loved about this family film favorite, with chocolate fountains, bubbles everywhere and, of course, a winning golden ticket. Our non-profit partner is the Humane Society of South Platte Valley and Great Divide Brewing Co. will generously donate the suds.

Wednesday, July 11 - ANNIE Bark-Along

Just a few years ago in the Aspen Grove Center, one hundred and seventy eight canines committed to one another in the world’s largest pooch wedding. The event became legend by entering the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest doggie wedding ever. What better way to acknowledge Littleton’s famous pooches than a screening of the ultimate wags-to-riches film, Annie?

For this event, dogs can bring their owners to an Annie bark- and- sing-along as well as dress up in their most glamorous (or unglamorous) costumes and compete against one another in a dress up contest.  Attendees will also receive a signature red Annie wig for a group photo (while supplies last)!  This event’s non-profit will be the Humane Society of South Platte Valley, with Wynkoop Brewing Company as the contributing brewer.

Wednesday, July 25 – REAL STEEL with (Dancing) Bot Battles

In Real Steel, Hugh Jackman fights for robo domination in the ring while trying to rebuild his malfunctioning relationship with his son. However, the father and son duo could not have put the real in steel unless a group of mad scientists invented battle bots in Denver in the mid-'80s. These mad scientists are still actively battling robots in the Denver area and have agreed to bring out their creations for a robot critter crunch. To make the Real Steel movie event complete, Alamo has also recruited the area's best robot breakdancers.

Our non-profit partner, Ameribotics, sponsors robot dance teams to compete at the International Robot Olympiad (IRO), a global gathering of about 1,500 of the world's smartest kids. In December, they assembled a team of Colorado students who took their dancing robots to Indonesia. This year, they'll compete in Korea and in 2013, the IRO will be hosted right here in Denver at the Colorado Convention Center.  Ameribotics and their team of Olympic-caliber students will be on hand to demonstrate their bots' moves to the beats of the Gorillaz and the Beastie Boys.  Our brewery contributor will be Odell Brewing Co.
