What you should know when you're ready to go

At first, the Alamo Drafthouse Kalamazoo may seem a bit overwhelming. Movies and meals and drinks -- all in one place? But don't be intimidated: It is much easier than it may seem. Let us guide you through the Alamo experience.

First: Visit our website at drafthouse.com/kalamazoo and purchase your tickets in advance. This provides your best chance to get the seats you want at the show you want to see. If you wait to buy them at the box office on the day of the show, you may find they are already sold out.

Second: Arrive at least 30 minutes early for your movie. Bring the credit card you used for your purchase to make it easy for the concierge to pull up your tickets. If your show isn't seating yet, relax at our bar or in our lounge area, where you can order appetizers and beverages before or after your film.

Third: Enter the theater as early as you can. This will give you time to peruse the menu, meet your server and ask any questions you might have about the food and drink. Plus, we'll treat you to a pre-show that's customized for the movie you are seeing. There will be no obnoxious ads for local tanning salons or carpet cleaning companies; instead, you'll see a program designed to complement the movie you're about to see.

Fourth: When you decide what you want, fill out an order card and place it in the railing in front of your table. Your server will take it to the kitchen and/or the bar. Remember: The earlier you place your order, the more likely you are to beat the rush.

Fifth: When the lights go down, it's time to power down your phone and wrap up your conversation. At Alamo, we adhere to a no-talking/no-texting policy to keep the audience's attention on the big screen and not on the dozens of little screens we carry around with us. If a staff member hears you talking or sees you peeking at your phone, you'll get one warning. The second time, you will asked to leave the theater, and you will not get a refund. If someone is bothering you, write a message on an order card and drop it in the rail. The server will pass the information along to a manager, who will take care of the problem.
