A brief overview of the Leprechaun series

This Saint Patrick's Day, we're celebrating the gleefully terrible movie LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD with a Hecklevision screening of the film. Your texted jokes will appear on screen - right alongside the film. Prepare for the event with this brief overview of the LEPRECHAUN franchise.

In 1993, director Mark Jones' LEPRECHAUN introduced the world to Warwick Davis' mean and green horror character. Davis, a veteran of such films as RETURN OF THE JEDI and WILLOW, played an evil Leprechaun in search of his stollen gold. Jennifer Aniston made an early appearance as a young woman who finds herself pitted against the Leprechaun as he seeks to retrieve his treasure.

Returning from death to find a bride, the evil leprechaun would return in LEPRECHAUN 2, the final film of the franchise to be released theatrically. Rodman Flender, director of last year's documentary CONAN O'BRIEN CAN'T STOP would take over the directing reigns in this film, which saw Davis' Leprechaun seek to make a young Los Angeles woman his eternal bride.

Cult director legend Brian Trenchard-Smith would take over directing duties for LEPRECHAUN 3, a movie that chronologically takes place before the first film in the series. In it, a college student is tempted with a magic coin when the Leprechaun visits Las Vegas.

Trenchard-Smith would return to the franchise for 1997's LEPRECHAUN 4: IN SPACE. Yes, that's right - the Leprechaun went to space. In order to court an alien princess. And space marines show up and fight the Leprechaun. And there's a giant half-human, half-spider monster. This is the movie that your parent's warned you would rot your brain. Chronologically, this is the final movie in the Leprechaun series.

Rob Spera's LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD was released in 2000. Chronologically, it's the first film in the series and stars Ice-T as a record producer who captured our favorite Leprechaun killer in order to rise to fame. When the Leprechaun escapes, though, a series of misfortunes, misdeeds and murders break out in the Los Angeles hood.

The Leprechaun would return one more time for LEPRECHAUN: BACK 2 THA HOOD, a movie that chronologically takes place between LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD and LEPRECHAUN 3 - this stuff is confusing. The film features Warwick Davis, back for a final time, on a rampage in Los Angeles searching for his gold. You'll see Sticky Fingaz in an early acting role! You'll see the origins of the Leprechaun finally revealed. You'll see somebody fish cloves out of marijuana, insert it into hollow-point bullets and try and kill a leprechaun. Oh, you lucky dog you.

Join us on Saint Patrick's Day at Mason Park for a screening of LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD (technically the first film in the series) in Hecklevision. You'll be able to mock the film with your cell phone and have your jokes appear on screen. Just don't make fun of Lucky Charms - leprechauns take that kind of stuff seriously.

Saturday, March 17 @ 7:30 PM — Mason Park
